At My Weight Loss Clinic, your care is provided by AHPRA-registered doctors and nurse practitioners and Accredited Practising Dietitians, by phone or video, anywhere in Australia. Your doctor or nurse practitioner assesses what’s driving your weight, agrees a personalised plan with you and reviews it regularly, and our dietitians help with practical eating changes. Our care is led by our founder and Clinical Director, Associate Professor Christopher O’Donnell, Nurse Practitioner, FACN. You pay per consult: the initial consult is bulk billed for eligible patients, or $59.99.
Who you'll see
- Doctors and nurse practitioners. Every doctor or nurse practitioner who treats you is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). You can check any of them on the AHPRA public register.
- Dietitians. Our dietitians are Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs), the credential Dietitians Australia awards and the one Australian Government programs recognise.
- Our clinical team is available 8am to 8pm AEST, 365 days a year, including public holidays.
What our doctors and nurse practitioners do
Weight-related health is a long-term condition, so our care is built around assessment and regular review. Your doctor or nurse practitioner can:
- assess your health, including weight history, medical conditions, medicines, sleep, mood and eating patterns
- request and interpret pathology, such as blood glucose, cholesterol, liver and thyroid tests, collected at a centre near you
- review your existing medicines, because some can contribute to weight gain
- agree a personalised plan with you, covering nutrition, activity, sleep and the barriers that matter most to you
- discuss treatment options where clinically appropriate. Prescribing is always at the discretion of your doctor or nurse practitioner, based on your individual circumstances, and any medicine is priced separately by the pharmacy
- refer you to our dietitians, or to a specialist service when you need one
- coordinate with your usual healthcare provider, with your consent
Some things need in-person care, such as a physical examination. Your doctor or nurse practitioner will tell you when that’s the case and help you arrange it.
How care works, step by step
- Check you’re eligible. Medical weight management suits people aged 16 and over whose weight is affecting, or likely to affect, their health. Read am I eligible?
- Book a 20-minute initial consult by phone or video. Your doctor or nurse practitioner assesses you and agrees a plan with you. Here’s what happens at your first consult.
- Start your plan, with regular reviews. Your doctor or nurse practitioner recommends how often to check in. Reviews are 10 minutes, or 20 minutes when there’s more to cover. You can add dietitian support at any stage.
- Move to maintenance. As things settle, the focus shifts to keeping your progress going, with a plan for extra support if you need it.
| Consult | Length | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Initial consult with a doctor or nurse practitioner | 20 min | $59.99, or bulk billed for eligible patients |
| Review consult | 10 min | $69.99 |
| Extended follow-up consult | 20 min | $85.99 |
| Dietitian follow-up consult | 20 min | $85.99 |
| Dietitian initial consult | 30 min | $100.99 |
The initial consult fee is set lower than our follow-up fees to make it easier to get started. Medicines, if prescribed, are priced separately by the pharmacy. There’s no membership or lock-in.
